After having a conversation this Friday about possible play styles for a possible airball field here at home I have come to the conclusion that some would believe that a 7 man airball field is meant to cover a large area of ground. This is simply not true. I have here a list of the correct field dimensions of 7-man, 5-man, and 3-man airball fields.
7 Man: 180' x 100'
5 Man: 150' x 75'
3 Man: 150' x 75'
The outermost bunkers are set 5 feet from the boundary lines making the total field dimensions.
7 Man: 185' x 105'
5 Man: 155' x 80'
3 Man: 155' x 80'
If you've ever watched speedball you'll know that if you space the bunkers apart to greatly the game won't happen, moving from bunker to bunker is hard enough on a small field with short distances between bunkers, how about running from bunker to bunker when there is 30+ feet between each one. Hard to do, unless you're an olympic sprinter. The woods are the woods and they rule the roost when it comes to big fields, airball on the other hand is supposed to be fast and small. Also knowing some of the people we play with the back corner bunker will be their favorite place because they can camp out and not have to move meaning that if the bunkers are scattered all over hell and back you won't be able to move from cover to cover with getting chopped up. So can we please, please, please use the correct dimensions? Two flags tops, one at each end of the field, regulation time 7 minutes, you have to capture your opponents flag, when the flag is raised to your color game over, and No Respawns! We tried capture the flag with taking the flag to the enemy base and with respawns it was absolute idiocy, you could not get to the enemy flag station because they were coming from there. Imagine trying to swim a flag up a river filled with pirahna and you'll understand what that was and would be like. Can we do things right for once instead of distorting everything to make it more like woodsball? They are separate for a reason, let's keep it that way. Take a look at the following videos and note the field size.

ReplyDeleteRegulation dosent matter in non-competetive free play. more bunkers means more movement in a smaller area. the 7 man bunker package is a better option because it has more bunkers, meaning, more cover in a given area. IMO the idea to even have air bunkers, is to put them in places where movement is not so friendly, not to create a tourney field, maybe even to beef up our wooded areas! Edge Zero is a woodsball/scenario team. speedball is seperate, and will continue to be that way, maybe even just a few of us. Perhaps your own team for those who wish to play this style? I personally have no interest. good write up though.
